Dementia prevalence calculator

Dementia prevalence calculator

The dementia prevalence calculator, available below, can be used to estimate the number of people in the population of a town, city, or community who may have dementia.

To use the prevalence calculator:

  1. Enter the number of people, male and female, in the five-year age bracket cells in the white columns.
  2. The estimate will appear in the cells on the right, with the total number and percentage shown in the bottom rows.

The estimates are based on the “rate cells", which are based on epidemiological prevalence data for dementia in Australia according to the five-year age brackets and by sex.

This calculator is based on the prevalence rates derived in AIHW 2012. Dementia in Australia. Cat. no. AGE 70. Canberra: AIHW.

Any estimates derived from this calculator should be considered broad estimates. Please note the reliability of this approach will be more limited when applied to smaller population numbers.
