Alzheimer's Australia is holding independent consumer consultations for the Productivity Commission's Report: Caring for Older Australians.
The Gillard Government has committed to reforming the aged care system in this term of Government. As part of the reform process the Government has asked the Productivity Commission to undertake an Inquiry into Caring for Older Australians.
The Productivity Commission is the Australian Government’s independent research and advisory body on a range of economic and social issues affecting the welfare of Australians. Its role is to help governments make better policies in the long term interest of the Australian community.
In August the Government released the final report from the Commission. The report recommends a new model for aged care in Australia. However, the Productivity Commission has failed to acknowledge dementia as the core business of aged care. There is not a single recommendation in the report that addresses dementia.
To gain consumer views on aged care, Alzheimer's Australia has been funded by the Department of Health and Ageing to conduct independent consumer consultations. Your suggestions will help us develop a report which will be used to help shape the response of the Government to the Productivity Commission’s Recommendations.
