Hierarchic Dementia Scale
Alzheimer's Australia WA is now the Australian provider of the Hierarchic Dementia Scale (HDS) kit, designed to rate the severity of dementia in people.
The Hierarchic Dementia Scale kit has been designed for health professionals to rate the severity of dementia in a person with a test which can be completed in 15 to 30 minutes.
The test is sensitive enough to detect changes over time. It contains 20 subscales which covers a broad range of mental functions. Each of the subscales contains items which are hierarchically organised, permitting optimal performance in any subscale to be pinpointed.
Although the HDS is not a diagnostic tool, it is still still useful for both clinicians and researchers. The HDS kit covers cognitive functions including comprehension, registration, reading, orientation, construction, concentration, calculation, drawing, writing, similarities, recent memory and more.
The kits are on sale from Alzheimers Australia WA for $500 per kit (incl GST), excluding postage and handling. Each kit contains a manual, puzzle shapes, 50 forms, a picture and a set of cards for drawing, comprehension and reading.
