Younger Onset Dementia Project Key Worker Program

There are about 24,400 people in Australia with Younger Onset Dementia (a diagnosis of dementia under the age of 65; including people as young as 30).

Alzheimer’s Australia is launching a new National Younger Onset Dementia Key Worker Program to provide individualised support services and improve the quality of life for people with younger onset dementia. This consumer focused program expands on the National Dementia Support Program and is funded by the Australian Department of Health and Ageing under the Living Longer. Living Better aged care reform package.

The dementia key worker will be a single point of contact for people with younger onset dementia, their families and carers. They will provide individualised information, support, counselling and advice and help consumers effectively engage with services appropriate to their individual needs.

The National Younger Onset Dementia Key Worker Program will also ensure that the needs of people with younger onset dementia are being met in the local community by increasing awareness and education, building capacity in the service sector and improving coordination of services across agencies.
