Christmas appeal
13 December, 2010
Christmas is time when treasured memories play a very special part in our lives.
Imagine, if you can, the frustration of not having those special memories at a time when all around you seems out of place.
No one should have to spend Christmas like this!
Imagine also, if you can, someone you have loved for so very long not being able to share the joy of new memories created on this special day, the thrill of a heartfelt gift, the immeasurable enjoyment of sharing a wonderful clay with family and loved ones, or that loved one not being there at all. No one should have to spend Christmas like this!
Now imagine you are just 11 years of age and on a day that means so much to you and your family, Saturday the 25th of December 2010, Christmas Day, and instead of waking up to the excitement of a special present from your mum, you just hope, with all your heart, that she will know who you are today.
Your mum will be 39 next birthday.
No one should have to spend Christmas like this!
There are families that don’t have to imagine this, because this is how they will spend Christmas Day this year, Saturday the 25th of December. No one should have to spend Christmas like this.. . but they will.
Christmas is about hope and at Alzheimer’s Australia SA we really do believe in hope.
We hope that a cure can be found, we hope that families don’t have to go through the pain that dementia causes, we hope that young mums can remember their baby’s first birthday, we hope that parents and grandparents live long and strong and treasure all the memories of lives well lived and particularly at Christmas time we hope that you too share our hope for the future.
We are now facing an epidemic and we really need your help so we can continue to support your friends, parents, grandparents, children and all of the families who are all struggling to deal with the consequences of this tragic disease.
Alzheimer’s Australia SA thanks you again for your continued support and we look forward to your generous contribution to this, our Christmas appeal for hope.
