Regional services

Alzheimer's Australia WA provides a range of services to support people with dementia and their families in regional WA.

If you live in regional WA, Alzheimer’s Australia WA endeavours to provide quality services through our regional teams based in:

  • Albany;
  • Kalgoorlie;
  • Mandurah; and
  • York.

Each team provides education, support and respite to carers and can assist families in accessing community based services in different areas of regional WA.

What you can expect
Our specialist staff will visit your family home in order to assess and clearly identify the individual needs of the carer and person with dementia.  The visits will focus on any identified issues of concern and the development of strategies and practical ways to assist in the care of the person with dementia.  Families will also be offered education, support and specialist information.

We offer support to the family throughout the time the person with dementia is living at home, and will provide links to other appropriate services if the person's accommodation needs change.

Respite and other support services
Regular community based respite is offered to families:

  • In-home respite
    This service provides respite and support to the person with dementia and the family in their own home on a one-to-one basis by one of our highly trained careworkers. Family carers can receive a regular or occasional service during the day or overnight (limited).

  • Host family respite
    Small group of people in the earlier stages of dementia gather in the home of a care worker.  Each home is known as a "Home Club".

  • Centre-based respite
    We offer centre based respite in Albany at Hawthorn House where people with dementia are able to interact with one another in a caring and supportive environment. Residents can enjoy a range of meaningful and enjoyable activities such as tending to the centre’s gardens, pets and getting involved in the weekly children’s playgroup. Family carers are able to come for regular support meetings, attend educational workshops or just drop by to enjoy some time off from their caring role. The centre also offers limited overnight respite.
