Ashby Memory Method Australia
The Ashby Memory Method is a person centered program that helps those already experiencing memory loss to moderate their symptoms better and for longer.
The Ashby Memory Method (AMM) uses multiple types of interaction and stimulation to match each person's interests and strengths while promoting personal connection and independence. AMM is designed to be an easy to implement program that offers measurable quality of life benefits for dementia care clients, their families, and caregivers.
The AMM program consists of a structured series of directed cognitive exercises and activities designed to promote participant self confidence and esteem, greater social interaction with family and community, awareness of self, enjoyment of activities and positive mood response to surroundings. It is an innovative therapy adapted from the field of brain injury rehabilitation and may reduce the need for psychotropic medications (often prescribed for agitation in dementia).
AMM is of particular benefit for persons with early to moderate stage dementia.
The AMM program is usually facilitated one on one (individually) with the program participant a minimum of twice weekly, which is recommended, approximately one hour per session.
Participants pay for program materials.
Program materials and training are available through Alzheimer’s Australia WA and other registered providers.
