For people with memory loss issues such as mild cognitive impairment or dementia and family members, friends or carers who would like to support them in the program.

Held over two days the Living with Memory Loss programs are designed for people living with mild cognitive impairment or early stage dementia and their family members and friends as an information and support group. People living with early stage dementia can attend alone or with a support person.

These programs provide a safe, open and interactive environment in which each person can feel free to talk openly with others in a similar situation. A range of topics to help with planning the future include: Symptoms and diagnosis, adapting to change, research and new drug treatments, practical strategies, relationships with family and friends, looking after yourself, planning for the future, community services, legal issues and where to from here?

Keeping the group to a maximum of 16 people allows time to provide information, discussion and to answer questions. The program includes: information sessions, video presentations, group discussions, self care and relaxation activities and informative guest speakers.

Some of the benefits of attending include: obtaining information, having questions answered, talking confidentially with others in a similar situation, discussion of experiences  in a safe environment, focus on maintaining and enhancing skills and abilities and exploring ways of managing now and into the future. Peer friendships often develop through the program and the follow up memory lane cafes offer a combination of continuing information and recreational activities for participants.

To register your interest in this program please call the National Dementia Helpline on 1800 100 500.  Morning tea and lunch are provided each day.
